The semester is quickly winding down, and before you know it, the spring will have taken over. It’s time to start thinking about graduation, and maybe some of the things you haven’t quite gotten around to yet.

St. Louis is home to countless sites of entertainment for students attending St. Louis University, and it would be a shame to graduate without hitting some of the better spots.

So, for those of you that want to make the most of your last year at SLU, here are 10 things you have to do before you graduate.

1. Go up in the Gateway Arch:

Seriously, if you’ve gone to school in St. Louis for the past few years, how can you avoid going up in the Gateway Arch?

It’s one of the not only most identifiable landmarks in the U.S., but also one of the coolest experiences you’ll ever have. This may not be an experience for those that don’t do well with heights (or the feeling of swaying in the wind), but for those of you willing to brave the arch, it’s one you’ll never forget.

2. Try something from Crown Candy Kitchen:

Since 1913 this café has been making a name for itself in the heart of St. Louis.

The shop is home to malts, sundaes and shakes that are good enough to satisfy any sweet tooth. Their lunch and dinner options, such as the world famous BLT, leave you filled to the brim and I promise you won’t leave hungry.

Plus, they make their own candy which tops many of their ice cream treats, so anyone with a craving for something sweet knows exactly where they need to be.

3. Go grass-sledding:

Before the weather drops down to its typical, cold temperatures, take a trip out to Sioux Passage Park for some sledding in the sun. That’s right, St. Louis is home to one of the more popular attractions for residents and tourists alike: grass-sledding.

Never heard of it? It’s really simple: you slide down the grassy hill sitting on a block of ice. Sledding without the hassle of cold weather and snow: what could be better?

It costs $10 a person to partake in the fun; just make sure you wear old clothes, bring a carpet square or a towel to sit on, and show up ready for a good time.

4. Ride the Superman Tower of Power at Six Flags:

Amusement parks are always a good time, no matter where you are, but not all parks are the same. St. Louis is home to one of the best Great Americas in the country, so not visiting it before you graduate is practically a crime.

The Superman Tower of Power is a 230-foot free-fall straight down; the ultimate ride for those thrill-seekers.

Six Flags is also home to family friendly rides as well as countless other thrill rides including Boss, Boomerang and Ninja. So whether you’re a coaster enthusiast or an easygoing fan of the Grand Ole Carousel, this park has got you covered.

5. Visit the St. Louis Zoo:

We all love animals. Aquatic life, mammals and amphibians all have a place in our hearts, and the St. Louis Zoo holds them all.

Visit Lakeside Crossing to see sea lions and stingrays or head on over to The Wild for some penguins, gorillas and bears. Either way, you’ll be seeing the animals you came to see in a beautifully themed environment.

Plus, there are so many attractions you can take advantage of such as the Zooline Railroad or the Safari Tours. With a shopping center, several restaurants and all the animals you could ever hope to see, the St. Louis Zoo is a must-see.

6. Tour the Anheuser-Busch Brewery:

You’re in college; you’re practically their best customers. At this point, you owe it to yourself to visit the source of some of your better college nights.

The tour takes you through the brewery, which it prides itself in being the oldest and largest, and it’s completely complimentary. That doesn’t happen often now does it?

You can visit the Clydesdales in their stables (built in 1885) and can see how beer is brewed at this historic location. Plus, they have 17 beers on tap and you get a free sample at the end of your tour. You’re welcome.

7. Visit the city’s museums:

St. Louis is home to countless museums, so it only makes sense that before you graduate, you at least visit one of them.

You can look at the architectural wonders the City Museum has to offer or even take a look at the Museum of Westward Expansion that takes up residence at the base of the Gateway Arch.

From the St. Louis Art Museum to the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame Museum, there are are enough museums in St. Louis to satisfy every palette.

8. Walk through the Missouri Botanical Garden:

Want a relaxing day where you can just be at one with nature? Go ahead and visit the Missouri Botanical Garden.

There isn’t a more peaceful, or beautiful, location, and you’ll find it’s the perfect place for pictures with your friends.

The many displays in the garden will keep your senses on edge as you move from the Chinese Garden through the English Woodland Garden to the Ottoman Garden and the Victorian District.

For those of you that are intrigued by culture and its influences on nature, this is a must-see.

9. Visit Grant’s Farm:

Grant’s Farm is home to 900 animals, which represent over 100 different species. If that’s not enough to intrigue you, I don’t know what is.

You can take a behind-the-scenes look at the Budweiser Clydesdales, take a stroll through the Deer Park and maybe even ride a camel. This place brings out your inner child, and you are sure to have a good time.

My recommendation: visit the Tier Garten. You can watch shows that educate and entertain by showing such animals as kangaroos, tortoises and colorful birds, just to name a few. Like I said, seeing animals is always a good time.

10. Eat at a restaurant in The Loop:

St. Louis residents will know that The Loop is a six-block area of entertainment where visitors can shop, eat or just walk around and take in the city.

If you haven’t yet, you have to eat at a restaurant here before you graduate. Go for something different with Corner 17 or test out your vegetarian options with Gokul Indian Restaurant.

Try and stay away from the Subways and Jimmy Johns of The Loop and step a little bit out of your comfort zone. Who knows, you might just find your new favorite restaurant.

St. Louis is one of the most historic cities the U.S. has to offer, and attending college there is only the tip of the iceberg.

So make sure that before you graduate, you’ve experienced the city for what it is: a vibrant, beautiful and entertaining place that never leaves you disappointed.
